This story was inspired by true events. 1964 marked the first Oscar win from a black actor as the lead in a film... a feat that wouldn't be repeated again for another 38 years. Being black and winning has always meant more than just the trophy... I wanted to interpret this moment originally shouldered by the great, Sidney Poitier as it still resonates today.
